“AN AUSTRIAN LEGACY””

 

 

 

 

The Newman Choir heralded Mozart’s 250th birth anniversary celebrations this January with a successful concert entitled MOZART – 250.  The Fr. J.B. Fernandes Sacred Music Foundation is proud to present yet again, the Newman Choir , at the Tata Theatre on October 26th, 2006, in “An Austrian Legacy”  a programme of music by the Austrian composers, Mozart, Hadyn, Schubert and Bruckner,  to coincide with Austrian National Day.

 

The Choir will be accompanied by the Newman Orchestra and conducted by Celeste Cordo, an accomplished violinist, pianist, composer, arranger and conductor!  The concert will also feature soloists: Natasha Colaco, soprano; Celia Lobo, alto; Amar Muchhala, tenor and Dhilan Gnanadurai, bass.

 

 

The Newman Choir is a part of The Fr.  J. B. Fernandes Sacred Music Foundation, a charitable organization.  Its roots trace back to the 38th International Eucharist Congress in 1964 and aims to create “a new man in every man” through music.  This choir is the only choir in Mumbai that works primarily towards  promoting Western and Indian classical, traditional and modern music by training its members comprising of 80 untrained and trained singers and musicians ranging from 17 to 70 years of age. The members of this Choir come from all walks of life and from all over Mumbai. We are also in the process of compiling and establishing a music library in different languages.
